Laxminarayan is a very large Hindu temple in Delhi. The Hindu religion is fascinating to me because it is so different and strange compared to anything I have ever experienced. This temple had idols to Vishnu, Shiva, Krishna and Ganesha. The idols are so ornate and colorful, almost gaudy in their decoration. Their skin is bright white like shiny porcelain dolls. There is so much symbolism in everything. From what they hold in their hands, to animals at their feet, to the shrines that encase them. We happened to be visiting the temple right when they had their evening prayer. Incense burned as people sang, prayed and gave offerings while a small band played drums and violins. It was a ethereal moment that is hard to describe because so much of it I did not understand. It was an amazing thing to watch.
